“ Mummy, Daddy Abby here” Josh called out at the top of his voice. He has been watching cartoons when he heard a knock at the door then Abby’s voice.
“ Coming” Kate yelled back from the kitchen. She had been preparing lunch as Abby and McGee were coming over.
Jethro was as usual in the basement working on his boat.
“ Hey guys. Jethro will be up in a minute” she greeted them.
“ No rush” McGee takes Abby’s coat.
“ McGee come watch” Josh pulls McGee into the lounge room.
“ 10 more minutes ok Joshie” Kate calls back.
“ Ok mummy”
“ So hows things” Abby says as they make their way into the kitchen.
“ Yeh good, good. How are you and McGee?”
“ Great. I love being married to him”
“ That’s great”
“ So are you guys still trying or are you?”
“ Um no we are still trying. Its just hard because he has been away a lot. But I didn’t think it would take this long”
“ So how long have you guys been trying?”
“ I think…2 ½ years. After Josh turned 1 we decided it was the right time”
“ Nothing? Have you been to the doctors?”
“ Yes and he said everything is fine. He said that the second time could be harder to fall”
“ Oh don’t worry. I’m sure it’ll happen soon”
“ What will happen soon Abs?” Jethro asked walking into the kitchen.
“ Oh nothing for you to worry about” Kate said turning around and kissed him.
“ Can you go drag the 2 children away from the tv please” Kate asked him.
“ 2 children?”
“ Josh and McGee” Abby replied.
Jethro went and got McGee and Josh. When he returned to find Abby and Kate putting out the food.
“ This looks great” McGee said sitting next to Abby.
They all dig in to their lunch.
“ Mummy wee” Josh says putting down his fork.
“ Ok hang on sweetie” Kate puts down her knife and fork and takes Josh to the bathroom
While Kate and Josh were in the bathroom Abby, McGee and Jethro talked.
“ Gibbs how hard are you and Kate trying for another child?”
“ Abby!” McGee exclaims, shocked at what she just asked.
“ What?”
“ You cant ask that”
“ McGee its ok” Jethro butts in.
“ Since Josh’s first birthday. Its been 2 ½ years and still nothing”
“ Well what did the doctor say?”
“ Doctor?”
“ Yeh Kate told me that you guys went to the doctors”
“ I didn’t”
Just then Kate and Josh walked back into the dinning room.
“ So what are you guys talking about?” she asked.
“ Uh just how good this food is” McGee lied.
“ Actually is it alright if me and McGee take Joshie to the park? Now?” Abby asked.
“ Um yeh I guess” Kate answered.
Abby and McGee left with Josh.
Jethro was still sitting at the table looking at his food.
“ What’s wrong?”
“ You didn’t tell me”
“ I didn’t tell you what?”
“ You went to the doctors and didn’t tell me”
“ Who told you?”
“ Its doesn’t matter. Why didn’t you tell me?”
“ Because I didn’t want to worry you”
“ But I’m your husband your suppose to tell me everything”
“ God Jethro, don’t be like that” she stormed out of the dinning room and up to the bedroom and slammed the door. She couldn’t believe what an ass he was being.
“ Kate!” he yelled after her. He swallowed what was left of the wine and went after her.
He opened the door.
“ Kate!”
She was sitting on the end of the bed.
“ Can you just tell me why?”
“ Because its taking so long” she started to cry. She couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“ What did he say?”
“ Nothing. He said everything was fine. It is normal for the second one to take this long”
“ So why didn’t you tell me?”
“ Because” she pauses.
Jethro knew what she was going to say.
“ Because you thought there was something wrong with you”
She nods.
“ Honey nothing is wrong with you. Nothing could ever be wrong with you” he knelt down in front of her, held her hands and kissed her cheek.
“ I’m sorry” she whispered to him.
“ Don’t be. Just tell me net time ok”
“ Ok” she kissed him back. She broke from the kiss and looked deep into his blue eyes. A smile slowly came across her face. That to him was the sign.
She pulled him in close and their lips locked together. He slowly crawled on top of her.
Kate grabbed at his shirt and finally got it off him.
Jethro started nibbling at Kate’s neck and she couldn’t help but let out a little giggle.
His hands moved down to her waist. He grabbed the bottom of her singlet and pulled it off. He sat up with he legs either side of her, looking at her bare skin. He dove back in a and ripped off her bra. He placed kisses from her breast all the way down her stomach and stopped at the top of her skirt. He ripped that off along with her panties.
“ Jethro” she breathed wanting him.
He goes back up t meet her lips.
She pushes him down and straddles his waits. She bends down and nibbles his ear. She then moves down his neck.
“ Oh Kate” he groans.
She plants kisses all the way down his chest and his stomach.
“ Oh god” he gasps as Kate starts undoing his belt with her mouth. She then undid his pants with her mouth. She pulled off his pants and with her teeth pulled down his boxers
He felt like he was going to explode already.
“ Kate”
She moves up to meet his eyes. Her thigh brushes his erection and that’s enough for him.
He pushes her onto her back and is inside her within seconds.
“ Oh Jethro” she exhales as he slide in and out.
He cant help but kiss her sweet lips.
One hand is holding himself above her while the other one finds her clit.
“ Jethro. Yes” she squeals into his mouth as he rubs her clit.
He gets faster and faster.
She bites his lip to kip from screaming out in pleasure.
He groans as her hips jerk up to meet his. He cant hold it anymore. He lets himself go with a groan.
She squealed as he plunged into her one last time.
He collapsed on top of her.
She ran her fingers through his hair.
Jethro got up, kissed Kate and went and had a shower.
Kate got dressed, re-did her hair and went down stairs to clean up from lunch.
She was almost done when the door swung open.
“ We’re back” Abby called.
“ Mummy” Josh called running towards Kate.
“ Hey honey. Did you have fun with Abby and McGee?” she asks picking him up and popping him on her hip.
“ Yep. We saw doggy. Where daddy?”
“ Daddy’s having a shower. Why don’t you take McGee into the kitchen so you can wash your hands”
“ Ok. Come on MGee” he runs into the kitchen when Kate puts him down. McGee follows him.
Abby and Kate walk into the lounge room.
“ Kate I am so sorry. I thought you meant you both went to the doctors”
“ Abby its ok. In fact I should be thanking you actually”
“ Thanking me?”
“ Yep” Kate replied with a cheeky smile.
“ Oh” Abby said smiling back at Kate.
“ Oh what?” McGee asks coming into the room.
“ Nothing. Where’s Josh?” Kate asks.
“ Gibbs came down from his shower and he asked is they could go work on the boat”
“ How is the boat coming by the way?” Abby asks.
“ Ok I guess. Do you want to go have a look?”
“ Sure” Abby jumps up.
“ You don’t mind?” McGee asks.
“ No. I’m sure Jethro wont either”
So they all head down to the basement.
“ Jethro is it alright if we come down?” Kate yells down to him.
“ Sure”
As they come down the stairs they can see josh sitting in the middle of the work bench with two wooden beams either side of him.
So far there is only the main beams. They haven’t put any panels on it yet so you cant really tell what it is.
“ Looking good” McGee says looking at the structure.
“ Abby MGee look me sanding” Josh tells them.
“ And what a good job you are doing” Abby tells him walking over to the beam he was working on.
“ do you want to help?” Jethro asks her.
“ Sure”
He throws her a piece of sanding paper.
“ How do I do it?”
“ Ask Josh. He will teach you” Kate tells her.
McGee goes over to help Josh and Abby sand the pieces of wood.
Kate is leaning on the tool bench when Jethro comes and stands in front of her .
“ You don’t mind them do you?” she asks him.
“ Nope” he puts his hands either side of her on the bench and leans in and kisses her.
“ Ewww. Mummy. Daddy” Josh squeals.
“ What’s eww Joshie?” Abby asks trying not to laugh.
“ Kissing”
“ You mean like this” Abby pulls McGee in and kisses him the same way Kate and Jethro had just done.
He just nods with a smile.
Kate is laughing and Jethro turns around to see what is going on. He to starts laughing.
“ Joshie come here” Kate calls him walking to the edge of the working bench.
He quickly jumps up and runs to his mum. He puts his little arms around her neck and hugs her tight.
“ What if I kiss you” she gives him a little kiss on the lips like always.
“ Is that ewww to?”
“ No” he says.
“ Why?” Jethro chimes in.
“ Cuz its mummy” he said hugging her again.
“ So why cant’ daddy kiss mummy?” Abby asks.
He just shrugs his shoulders and they all laugh.

“ No running in the house” Kate yells after Josh and his friends.
It’s Josh’s 4th birthday and the theme this year is ‘sailors’. Last year was cowboys.
Josh has about 10 friends from pre-school over and their parents are here as well as Abby, McGee, Tony, Ducky, Leslie, Phil, Julie and Scott ( Dylan couldn’t make it)
Jethro gathers all the kids around the table outside as Kate brings out the boat shaped cake.
Everyone sings happy birthday and Josh blows out his candles.
When all the guests were gone Josh took all his toys up stairs.
After cleaning up outside everyone who was left which was basically the family, they all went into the lounge room to relax.
Josh had fallen asleep on Phil’s lap.
“ He certainly had a big day” Julie said smiling at him.
Kate all of a sudden had to rush to the bathroom.
‘ This has to be the right time’ she thought to herself.
“ Are you ok?” Leslie asked as Kate walked into the lounge room.
“ Um….yes. I would like to say something though”
She paused looking at Jethro. He was staring into her eyes.
“ Honey we did it” was all she said with the biggest smile she could muster.
“ Yes!” he shouted jumping up, running to Kate and picking her up. He kissed her long and hard.
“ Wow. I didn’t think you would get that excited” she said when he calmed down.
“ Kate what’s going on?” Julie demanded.
“ Where having another baby” Jethro said kissing Kate again.
“ Oh my god! Congratulations” Julie jumped up and hugged her.
“ Kate that’s wonderful” Leslie said kissing her on the cheek.
“ It’s about time” Abby laughed.
“ Mummy” Josh grumbled, starting to wake up.
“ It’s ok Joshie” Kate picked him up and he snuggled his head on her shoulder and went back to sleep.
That night Jethro went to sleep with his hand on Kate’s stomach ready for it to start growing.

It was 9am when Kate and Jethro walked into the bullpen.
Kate was now 5 weeks pregnant. She could still go out in the field for another 2-3 months.
They didn’t stay long until they were called out to a suspects house.
“ Federal agents. Put down your weapon” Kate yelled running through the back door of the suspects house.
Jethro and McGee had gone in the front and left Tony with Kate.
“ Get outta my house” the suspect shouted back.
“ Once your in our custody we’ll be happy to leave this hole” Tony replied.
Tony, Kate, Jethro and McGee had him cornered in his living room.
“ George put down your weapon” Kate asked him again stepping towards him.
“ You take on more step and I’ll shoot you”
“ You shoot her then I’ll have to shoot you” Jethro said firmly.
“ George put the”
“ NO”
‘Bang’
He let one off.
‘Bang Bang’
Jethro let two off.
George lay motionless on the carpet.
Jethro turned to see Kate in Tony’s arms holding her bleeding stomach.
“ Kate” he rushed over to her.
McGee was on the phone in seconds calling for an ambulance.
“ I’m sorry Jethro” she blurted out.
“ Kate its ok. Your going to be ok” he took Kate off Tony. Tony took off his jacket, rolled it into a ball and put it on Kate’s wound.
“ Keep this on it” he told her. She was coming in and out of consciousness so she couldn’t hold it there, Tony held it tight not wanting to let go.
“ Jethro, I’m sorry” Kate managed to say before she blacked out.
“ Kate, Kate stay with me. Please Kate” Jethro says trying to wake her up. She slowly opens her eyes.
“ Boss ambo’s are here” McGee came in and said followed by two ambulance officers.
“ It’s about time” Tony said getting up and letting the officers do their job.
They stabilized Kate. One of them goes and gets the trolley. They load Kate on to the trolley.
“ Katie your gunna be fine” Jethro tells her.
“ I’m going with her. You two stay here and wait for Duck “ Jethro tells them climbing into the ambulance.
As the ambulance sped away, sirens blaring Tony and McGee just stood there. To scared to move.
Ducky and Palmer arrived soon after.
“ What have we got?” Ducky asks both men. They just look at him but don’t say anything.
“ Oh no” was all Ducky could say.
He walked into the house and not knowing what to expect. He walked into the living room to find a man lying on the ground with two bullet shots to his chest. He knew this was the work of Jethro, no doubt about it but what he didn’t get was where was Jethro and why was there a pool of blood so far away from the body
“ That’s Kate’s” Tony said standing next to Ducky who couldn’t stop staring at the blood on the floor.
“ What happened?”
“ He shot her in the stomach and Gibbs shot him” Tony informs him.
“ Well we will get this mess cleaned up and then we can go check on them”
Once the house was cleaned and the body was on Ducky’s slab they all went to the hospital.
“ Where is she?” Ducky asks Jethro as they came into the waiting room.
“ Their still operating”
“ Oh Jethro I am so sorry”
“ Yeh so am I boss I “ McGee started.
“ You what McGee? Did you know he was going to shoot?”
“ No but”
“ But nothing McGee. I’m responsible. I should never had let her out in the field”
“ Boss don’t blame yourself” Tony starts.
“ DiNozzo” Jethro turns to face him but gets interrupted by the doctor.
“ Gibbs” he announces.
“ Yes” Jethro turns around in a flash.
“ Your wife is out of surgery. We were able to stop the bleeding and remove the bullet but due to the loss of blood and the location of the bullet, the baby was lost. I am so sorry”
“ When can I see her?”
“ You can see her now if you like”
As they followed the doctor to her room Jethro was stopped by someone calling his name.
“ Gibbs! Gibbs!” Abby yells running after them. She ran into his arms.
“ Where is she?” she cried into his shoulder.
“ We are about to go see her Abs. the doctor said that she is fine except” he paused.
“ Except what Gibbs?” she asked pulling away and looking him in the eyes.
“ She lost the baby” he said. His eyes started to fill with tears.
“ Oh no” Abby hugs him and doesn’t want to let go.
They finally reach Kate’s room. She is asleep. She looks so peaceful.
Jethro walks over to her side. He looks down at her, grabs her hand and kisses it. Abby is silently crying in McGee’s arms. Tony and Ducky are starring at Kate. Both wondering how one woman can be put through so much, not to mention Jethro.
“ She didn’t want to loose the baby. I should of made her stay” Jethro started.
“ Gibbs she would of argued with you and end up coming anyway” Tony tried to reassure him.
“ Jethro” came a whisper from Kate.
“ I’m here” he replied squeezing her hand.
“ The baby?” she asked hoarsely
“ No. I’m so sorry Katie”
The tears started flowing down her face. Jethro kissed her forehead.
“ I’m sorry” he whispered to her.
She was now hysterical. Jethro tried to comfort her as much as he could without hurting her.
Tony, Ducky, Abby and McGee decided to leave them alone.
“ Josh” Abby exclaimed as they got out of the hospital.
“ We’ll go pick him up and he can stay with us. It’s no problem” McGee assured her.

“ Morning Mrs. Gibbs. I believe you can go home today” the nurse said coming into Kate’s room.
“ Thanks” Kate said slowly sitting up.
It has been 3 days since the accident and Kate’s stomach is healing nicely.
“ Now you probably only have to change the dressing once a day and the stitches can come out in about 1-2 weeks”
“ We have someone who can take them out” Jethro says as he enters the room with coffee.
“ Ok that’s alright. So we’ll just change it for you and get all the paperwork and then you can go home”.
“ Ok thanks”
When the nurse left to get the paperwork Kate got changed and Jethro got her things.
Kate sat on the side of her bed looking at the ground.
“ What’s wrong Kate?” Jethro asked walking over to her. He sat down next to her and put an arm around her.
“ Nothing. Just glad to go home” she said looking him in the eyes. He could tell that wasn’t the only thing on her mind and that she will tell him when she’s ready.
When they got home Abby and McGee were waiting there with Josh .
“ Mummmy” Josh squealed as Kate came through the door. He ran to her and hugged her legs.
“ Hey Joshie. Mummy missed you” she said picking him up and kissing him.
“ Miss you to mummy. I stay with Abby and McGee”
“ Where you good for them?” Jethro asks.
“ Yep”
Jethro looks questionly at McGee and Abby. They both nod their heads.
“ Well we should get going. I’m glad your home” Abby said hugging Kate on her way out.
“ Thanks for having him guys”
“ It’s no trouble. Anytime” McGee waves.
That night Jethro made dinner with the help of Josh while Kate was sitting in the lounge room. She just sat there thinking about whst had happened just only 3 days ago. The events keep playing through her head.
When Jethro had put Josh to bed he went down and sat next to Kate.
“ What’s wrong?”
“ I told you I couldn’t go through it” she said softly as she broke out in tears.
“ Honey I am so sorry” he said bringing her in close.
“ You couldn’t of known something like this was going to happen” he told her kissing her head.
“ Jethro I’m sorry. I’m so sorry” she cried into his chest.
“ Katie its not your fault. It’ll be ok”
They just sat there holding each other. Eventually Kate feel asleep and Jethro carried her up to their room and tucked her into bed. He then went to bed himself.

“ Ok Caitlin are you ready?”
“ Ducky please just do it already” Kate told Ducky as she lay on the lounge with her arm over her eyes so she cant see him take the stitches out.
“ Ok then” and with that Ducky started to take them out. He could see her muscles clench as he took them out one by one.
“ There we are. They are all out”
“ Thanks Duck” she got up and hugged the old ME.
“ Anytime. Well better get back. Ah when can we expect you back at work?”
“ Next week”
“ Have you seen Tony since the…” Ducky cant even say it.
“ Uh no. I invite him over for dinner but he says he is always busy. Why do you ask?”
“ Well he hasn’t quiet been himself”
“ What do you mean?”
“ He isn’t, how do you put it, annoying. He does what he is told with no arguments. Jethro hasn’t even had to slap him”
“ Oh that isn’t Tony at all. I’ll talk to him. Thanks again Ducky”
“ No problem at all”
Once Ducky had left Kate got on the phone to Tony straight away.
“ DiNozzo” he answered.
“ Tony, its Kate”
“ Oh hey, how you feeling?”
“ Great. Now you need to get over here now”
“ What do I tell Gibbs?”
“ Tell him that I need you. He doesn’t need to know everything” and with that she hung up.
While she waited for Tony to arrive she did some washing.
“ How does he get so dirty” she thought aloud to herself as she examined a pair of Josh’s pants which where covered in dirt.
‘Knock Knock’
“ Coming” she yelled back.
“ Tony. That was quick” she said a little stunned that he was there so fast.
“ What do you need?”
She showed him in and took him into the lounge room.
“ Sit”
“ Ok but why am I here?”
“ We need to talk”
“ About what?”
“ You”
“ Me? There’s nothing wrong with me” he said with a smile, Kate saw right through it.
“ When someone says there’s nothing wrong, there normally is”
“ Kate, I’m telling you there isn’t”
“ And I’m telling you there is. Ducky has noticed that you aren’t acting like yourself” she cut him off.
“ Ducky?”
“ Yes Ducky. He told me this morning”
“ Kate I’m telling you I’m fine”
Kate can tell he is lying.
“ Tony please tell me. I don’t want to interigate you but it sure looks that way”
After a long silence
“ Ok ok. When you got shot I thought that as it. I thought you were going to die in my arms, or Gibbs’. I thought it was going to be the last time I saw you. I know your ok now but because your not at work….I dunno… it sorta feels like…. I did loose you” he finally blurts out.
“ Oh Tony. Come here” she said pulling him up into a hug.
“ I see I’ve been replaced already” Jethro says walking in on the scene.
Kate and Tony broke from their embrace.
“ Jethro don’t be stupid”
“ Boss its nothing” Tony told him.
“ I know DiNozz. Get back to work. I’ll talk t you then”
“ yes boss”
Tony left with a smile at Kate and a nod at Jethro.
“ Jethro what was that?”
“ What was what?”
“ You didn’t have to say that. I told him to come here because Ducky said there was something wrong with him an I wanted to find out what”
“ Kate, I know. He hasn’t been himself. And I heard what he said and its not just him everyone feels the same way. Especially me”
“ Jethro” Kate sighed rushing over to him and putting her arms around him.
“ I will never leave you. I’m yours until the end”
“ I will never leave you either. I will never let you go” he held her tight before kissing her.
“ I want to go back to work”
“Ok. You can come tomorrow. I’ll go back and inform everyone” and with another kiss he was gone.

“ Welcome back Caitlin. Now is there any reason why you cant do field work?” the director asks.
“ Thankyou sir. No there is no reason an in fact I would like to get in the field as soon as possible”
“ That’s what I like to hear. You may go join your team”
“ Thankyou sir” Kate left his office and was greeted by Jethro out side the door.
“ What did he want?”
“ He just welcomed me back and asked of I was ok to go back in the field”
“ So he’s ok with you coming back early”
“ I guess so”
They both walk into the bullpen where Tony and McGee are sitting at their desks.
“ Kate what are you doing here?” Tony asks standing up.
“ I decided to come back to work early”
“ Well that’s great news” McGee says coming over to them.
“ Thanks McGee. I’m just glad to get out of the house” she jokes.
It’s 4pm an her first day back wasn’t as exciting as she thought it would be.
“ Jethro I have to go pick up Josh. I’ll be back soon” she grabs her coat and before Jethro has a chance to look up from his paperwork she is in the elevator on her way to the car park.

A year has passed and for the Gibbs family everything is normal. No one has tried to kill them. They have been shot at but have never been hit, but for Kate the worst day for being a parent has finally arrived. They day that josh starts school.
Kate and Jethro drive him to school. They both walk him into the school his hands in theirs.
“ Ok Joshie. Now I will come pick you up when your finished. Be a good boy and do what the teacher tells you ok” she tells him kissing him on the cheek.
“ I will mummy. I promise” he says with a smile.
“ Now Josh play nice with the other kids. If you have to you can tell them some of our stories” Jethro tells him, hugging him.
“ I will daddy. Can I tell them what you and mummy do?”
“ As long as its chase bad guys then yes” Kate says before Jethro has a chance to say anything.
The bell rings and all the other kids say goodbye and make their way to the class room.
“ Ok time to go. Give me another hug” Kate pulls him in not wanting to let him go.
“ I’ll miss you mummy” he tells her.
Tears started to sting Kate’s eyes.
“ I’ll miss you to Joshie”
She let go of Josh and stood beside Jethro. Josh turned and started walking towards the classroom. Before he went in he stopped, turned to face his parents and blew them a kiss. Kate blew him a kiss back and Jethro waved goodbye to his son.
“ Jethro why didn’t you tell me it was going to be this hard” Kate said as they walked back to the car, arms around each other.
“ Just think that he is at pre-school”
“ I cant. He has lots of kids older then him here. What if he gets picked on”
“ Kate he’s a big boy, he’ll be alright” he kissed her and got in the car.
“ Your right” she got in the car herself.
