Author's Notes:
Abby, Tony, Gibbs, Kate, Ducky and McGee are in detention.
Tony DiNozzo was having a bad day. His morning had been horrible, because his nanny had been an hour late, and because of that he hadn’t had any breakfast and he had been late from school. At school his least favourite teacher had decided to keep the English test two days early. He felt like he didn’t remember any of the questions and then Ricky Thompson had accused him of cheating - landing him in detention.

In math, he found out that someone had ripped of the pages in his notebook containing his homework, and Mrs. Gibson wouldn’t believe him when he told her he had done them last night. He got sent out of the class.

After that he had lunch and he realized that Rachel, his nanny, had forgotten his lunch box and he had to eat in the school cafeteria, something which was called meatloaf, but didn’t taste or look like one at all. And Nicky was sick at home so he couldn’t even have half of his.

Having PE after lunch wasn’t one of the best ideas having occurred to whoever it had been who had put together his timetable. He felt sick after just ten minutes playing basketball and he had to run to the bathroom. Fortunately or unfortunately he didn’t actually throw up, but Coach Harris sent him straight to the showers anyway.

In geography he couldn’t answer the question, because he had been sick for three days last week and didn’t have the information. He spent the class making faces behind Mr. Brown’s back and making his classmates laugh, until Jessica Rain tattled him. He hated tattletales.

So you might understand why at three o’clock, Tony was irritable and wanted nothing more that get his stupid detention started and over with. He was expecting the usual troublemakers when he stepped in the room, but found himself stopped on his tracks. He saw no Megan Huffier, no Ryan Dallas, no Don Flames, no Matt Walker and more importantly no Mr. Ferris.

Instead there were three unknown boys and two girls, who, he was sure he had never seen. One of the girls had ordinary, straight brown mid-level hair, snobby expression, flower patterned skirt and wrists full of friendship bands. She was starring disdainfully the other girl, who had pale skin, lots of black makeup around her eyes, black collar around her neck and black miniskirt and a t-shirt with a picture of a bloody skull in it. She also had thick black and spiked wrist bands around her wrists. Tony liked her smile, it was full of mischief and was directed at him and one of the other boys, nearest the door.

He was an older guy, at least twenty, sandy hired, had blue eyes and looked utterly bored the way he leaned backwards at his chair and stared at nothing. Seeing him, Tony wanted immediately get to his good graces. Even though his clothes were horrible, probably straight from the rack and his hair needed his mother’s hairdresser’s scissors " immediately. He still looked cool.

He gazed quickly two of the other boys in the room, geeks both of them, discussing at the back of the room. The other one had glasses and light brown hair and they were both dressed in khaki pants and their shirts were tucked under their belts.

There was one table between the black haired girl and the older boy, so Tony decided to sit between them. He grinned at the girl and said:

“Cool collar. Is it real leather?”

“Yeah, my uncle got it for me. I like your pendant. Where did you get it?” the girl asked curiously, tilting her head to the left. Tony grabbed the pendant in his neck; he had gotten it from his Uncle Giotto.

“From this really cool shop in Italy, the shop keeper was creepy! He was really old and he cackled when he spoke. I didn’t want to go in at first ‘cause the building was a little creepy too, not that I was scared or anything, but Uncle Giotto said he’d get me a present only from there so we went in. There were spider webs everywhere, and all kinds of cool stuff just lying around, under the dust! I don’t think people go there very often, but he had this real cool tarantula in a glass cage and his assistant had a tiger python around his shoulders! I got to touch it,” he explained, moving his arms excitedly around himself.

“Wow!” the girl said her green eyes wide. “That’s so cool.”

The girl with a flower patterned skirt snorted. “You have been to Italy? Liar! Prove it”

Tony scowled and said: “Tu sei asino. É tu imbecille? Mio famiglia é dall’Italia! ”

The girl stared open mouthed and the other said: “That’s even cooler! I can’t speak anything but English and sign language. I’m Abby by the way, what’s your name?”

“That’s a lovely name, I’m Tony. It’s nice to meet you, bella.” He grinned and winked, making Abby laugh.

They chatted for a while, but after Abby had told about his uncle’s tattoo parlor and all the cool customers he had, she introduced him to the older boy to his right.

“This is Gibbs. He doesn’t speak much, but he’s cool.”

Tony smiled and said: “Hi.”

The boy grunted and nodded, but didn’t acknowledge them otherwise.

Abby giggled as Tony frowned and opened his mouth as if to say something, when a strange man walked in. He had dark blonde hair and he wore glasses. Tony stared; the man had also a red bowtie a tweed jacket.

The man coughed and said: “I’m Dr. Donald Mallard and I promised to watch after all of you for Mr. Ferris, who unfortunately has fallen sick. Now, do sit down and write your names in this paper so that Mr. Ferris knows you have been here.”

He had a British accent, but Tony couldn’t say if it was Irish or Scottish. The man sounded kind, even when he was giving orders and they all did what he told them to without a word of protest. Except the other girl, Kate, as Abby had said, who rolled her eyes and sighed loudly before writing her name.

“Well, then. It seems you are quite well behaved students, all of you. This reminds me of a time when I was a little boy and my best mate and I got detention from Professor Cunningham. Why it was " “

“Ducky! We are in detention, we’re not supposed to listen to your stories,” Gibbs yelped next to Tony, looking alarmed, and Dr. Mallard reddened.
“Of course, Jethro. Do excuse me children. Who knows when I’m supposed to release you?”

Abby giggled, and raised her hand.

“Oh, Abigail my dear girl, how wonderful you to be here! Do tell me your business.”

“Hi, Ducky!” she grinned widely. “I think we’re supposed to get to go home at five, but Tim has a slip from Mr. Bandy, it should have the right time.”

“Oh yes, my dear, thank you. Timothy?” “Ducky” prompted.

“Do " do I know you?” one of the geeks, the one without glasses, stuttered, but started to rummage his backpack. Tony watched bemused from Dr. Mallard to Gibbs and from him to Abby while fingering his pendant between his thumb and forefinger. Gibbs looked bored again. Abby smiled at him sweetly and “Ducky” looked patient.

This was giving him a headache. He glanced at the clock; it was a quarter to four. He sighed, wishing he knew sing language so he could ask Abby what was going on, without anyone understanding. Instead he lifted his eyebrows to her, but before she could do anything Timothy started cheerfully from behind them: “Found it! It says that we can leave half past five.”

He sounded depressed at the end, Tony noted. His parents would probably be angry and disappointed with him. The boy next to Tim looked pale and scared. Kate, he noted interested, didn’t seem surprised. She reminded him a lot of Jessica Rain, the girl who had tattled him to geography teacher just an hour ago. A good girl, who had only one friend and got straight A's from classes and was teachers’ favourite.

“Well, settle down then. At quarter past five we start a game where we all tell why you are all here, but now I beg you " silence.”

They were quiet.

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

It felt like time had slowed, or stopped altogether. Next to Tony Abby laid her head on the table and shut her eyes, breathing deeply. Ducky started to read newspaper.

Tony heard rustling from Gibbs’ desk, but didn’t dare to turn to look.

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

A little paper landed on his head and he almost yelped aloud. On the front had been written: Abby. He threw it to her head. She didn’t budge.

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

Four PM.

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

Tony hated detention with passion. He was energetic person, and couldn’t stand staying still for longer than ten minutes, even when he was sleeping.

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

Quarter past four.

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

Ducky’s newspaper rustled when he turned a page. Somebody coughed.

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.
Why weren’t they allowed to do homework at the detention? It would be a lot more useful than just sitting doing nothing!

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

God help him, he’d thought doing his homework would be more fun when compared to this boredom!

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

Yawn.

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

“Achoo!” Kate sneezed. “Achoo!”

“Bless you, Caitlin,” Dr. Mallard said, smiling. “Do you need a tissue?”

Kate shook her head, no.

Tony yawned.

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

Yawn. Quarter to five.

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

Abby woke up and smiled at Tony. He smiled back and pointed at the paper slip from Gibbs.

Abby opened it and smiled at the text, suppressing a giggle by pressing a hand over her mouth. Tony yawned again.

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

Abby threw a paper slip to Gibbs who opened it immediately. Tony shut his eyes just for a second.

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

“Well, it seems to be quarter past five. Who wants to volunteer?”

Tony opened his eyes slowly, trying to make sense of his words. What?

“No one? Oh, well… How about you, James? Why are you here?”

Tony turned, exchanging sleepy smiles with Abby, and looked at reddening Palmer.

“M- me? Okay, uh… Well, you see there was this really cool new Superman comic and I just got it this morning and Ikindareaditinclass and Mrs. Greenwich caught me,” he hid his face behind his hands.

“Hmm… I see. Maybe you next, Abigail?”

“Sure, Ducky! I was late from class, because I was doing exorcism in the girls’ bathroom. I was late only four minutes, but Donna " sorry, Ms. Gate couldn’t let me go unpunished this time. She believed me about the spirit, though,” Abby said smiling. “So it’s no big deal.”

“Ah, I understand. You next, I think, Caitlin.”

Kate stared Ducky murderously. Tony rolled his eyes and saw Abby do the same.

“Oh, for Gods sake! This is ridiculous! Why do I have to tell everyone?”

“Because everyone else tells too, you asino! Come on, I need to get home soon.”

“Don’t use that gibberish, you little " “

“It’s not gibberish, Caitlin!” Tony growled.

“Enough!” Duck- no, Gibbs roared and slapped Tony upside the head. It hurt, but it was still kinda nice. He grinned and shut up.

“Well… Well, okay. My brother told me if I climb at the top of the tree at our schoolyard and wished, it’d come true. One of the teachers caught me, so here I am.”

Tony didn’t think that was entirely the truth, but it was close enough for him. He really wanted to go home.

Ducky nodded. “Thank you, Caitlin. Jethro?”

Gibbs sighed almost so quietly that Tony didn’t hear. “I got in a fight with Rogers, because he was bullying Rose Connor. Schoolmistress Shepard can’t stand me, so I was lucky I got only one detention.”

Tony shook his head; these were really stupid reasons to get detention. Someone really was there out to get them all!

“And you Timothy?”

“Mr. Bandy wanted me to think my behavior in schoolyard, he thinks I’m alone too much. That I should leave my books inside and play with the other children…”

“Ah,” Ducky said, “perhaps he’s right about leaving the books inside, but I don’t think that’s appropriate "“

Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack. Tick tack.

“Ahm, Ducky. It’s already twenty-five past five!” Abby chirped, interrupting the man. “It’s Tony’s turn to tell his story.”

“Ah, quite. If you’d please, Anthony, my boy?”

“Yeah, well I had real crappy morning today. Rachel was late, I didn’t get breakfast and my English teacher made us do the test two days early and Ricky Thompson accused me of cheating. She always believes him because he’s so good at writing stories and gets straight A’s from her tests. So it was his word against my word " she believed him and I got detention. End of story.”

“Aww, that’s horrible.”

“Yeah, can we go now? My aunt is picking me up right now,” Caitlin said impatiently.

“I suppose. Do have blast evening, children!” Ducky said smiling and started to gather his newspaper.

“See you around then, right Tony?” Abby asked hurriedly, gathering her belongings. Tony nodded.

“Yeah, Abs. See you around.”

Tony and Gibbs were the last people in the room.

“See ya around, Tony. You seem like a nice kid,” Gibbs said, petting his neck almost affectionately before departing from the room.

Tony stared after him, it had been kinda nice. He really hoped he’d meet them again soon.

Massaging his neck and fingering his pendant he walked out of the room.
