Author's Chapter Notes:
Kate and Tony - enough said
Caught In Your Web

Your cruel, deep eyes
Your blood, like ice
One look, could kill
My pain, your thrill

Kate slowly lowered herself into her bubble bath. The sweet aroma of vanilla candles wafted throughout the room as the scent of the hot bubbles reached Kate’s nose. It had been a long, hard day and she wanted nothing more than to relax in a bubble bath and then settle down with a glass of wine and a movie before going to her overly comfortable bed.
In recent days she had missed the comfort and warmth of her bed as she often found herself sleeping behind her desk at the office or crashing out on her sofa. She painfully missed her bed and her home that she was almost falling asleep in the bath. Stretching out the full length of the bathtub, Kate felt the water rising to her chin.
Snapping open her eyes, Kate decided that it was time that she got out. She didn’t exactly want to drown in a bath of jojoba and apple bubble bath. Stepping out the bath she quickly felt the cold billow around her body and she grabbed a towel from the warm radiator. Draining the bath, she sauntered into her bedroom and discarded the towel on the floor next to the laundry basket. Pulling a bottle of aloe vera and peach moisturiser from her dresser and began methodically massaging it into her supple skin, careful not to miss a single inch. She was a year off thirty, and that meant a year from the gravitational pull that would overtake her body. She had been moisturising since she was thirteen and she wasn’t about to stop now.
Grabbing the black lace and suede bra and matching hipster shorts off her bed she dressed quickly. There was a sudden chill in the air and as she glanced at the clock she realised it was close to midnight. She had been at home for nearly three hours. As quickly as she had put on her underwear, she threw the USC vest over her head and picked up the blanket from the end of the bed.

I wanna love you but I better not touch
I wanna hold you but my senses tell me to stop
I wanna kiss you but I wanna too much
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You’re poison running through my veins, poison
I don’t wanna break these chains

Just as she had settled herself down on the sofa, wrapped in her blanket with a glass of strawberry wine in her hand ready to watch a film there was a knock at the door. This startled her. No one ever came knocking at her door unless it was an emergency. She’d had no phonecall’s asking her to go back to work, so she slowly and uneasily stood from the sofa. Grabbing the small smith and Wesson from the side table drawer, she made her way out to the front door. Peeking through the peephole, she discovered a soaking wet Tony. When had it started raining? She pulled open the door and stared at him in shock.
“Tony! What the hell are you doing here?”
“Uh, I, uh…”
“Stop ‘ah-umming’ Tony. You’re starting to sound like McGee.”
“I figured, that you hadn’t had anything to eat yet and I thought I would come over with pizza or Chinese. But then I couldn’t figure out if I should bring a Chinese or pizza, so I ordered pizza and then thought that maybe you wouldn’t want pizza, so I waited for the pizza and ate it and then ordered a Chinese.”
“Is there a point to this?”
Tony stood open mouthed as Kate’s outfit had interrupted his train of thought. This particular outfit brought back memories of their morning in Gitmo a year ago. She had seen him naked, in his full birthday suit and it was only a few months ago that he had seen her in the shower. Catching a glimpse of her naked body before she threw the soaking wet sponge at his face, obstructing his view. Tony took in the amazing body in front of him and noticed that she was wearing some very nice underwear as he spied her black lace and suede bra strap poking out from the top.

Your mouth so hot
Your web I’m caught
Your skin so wet
Black lace on suede

“Earth to DiNozzo! Look, come in and get dry at least. Then maybe you can explain to me why you showed up on my door at midnight.”
Tony looked at his feet briefly before entering her apartment. He didn’t really know why he was here. At first, he had thought he would go over there, with the intentions of brining her dinner and then telling her the truth. Then he had stopped at his favourite bar and had a few drinks. Once he had got home, he continued thinking about food. He had indeed phoned for a pizza and Chinese, but he had also wired into a crate of beer. So now there he stood, dripping water onto Kate’s hardwood floor as she looked to him for an explanation.
“Well?”
“Well what? Oh, right. Uh…”
Kate smiled slightly as she sat down and continued drinking her wine while keeping her eyes fixed to Tony. Tony stood still wondering what to say next when he realised he was still dripping water all over her floor. An idea came to him as he took his jacket off and headed to the bathroom to hang it over the door.
Kate was sure she caught the slight whiff of scotch on his breath as he spoke to her, but she was hardly one to talk. She was sitting drinking her third glass of wine, alone. She sat slowly drinking the sweet strawberry flavoured liquid, pondering as to why Tony would be at her apartment at this time. It had taken her months since she had first seen him on Air Force One to push the feelings she thought she had for him out of her mind. She had been so deep in thought, she hadn’t notice Tony come back through.
“Any more of that?”
“Uh, yeah. In the kitchen.”
She watched him as he helped himself to a glass of her favourite wine. As he came back through to her, he swallowed a mouthful before speaking.
“Okay. Before I start, I don’t want you to interrupt me. I just want to say this to you, okay?”
“Okay.”
“Katie, we have worked together for over a year now. I knew from the moment I met you that I could fall in love with you at any moment. It took me a while to realise, but the very instant I saw you, I did fall. And boy did I fall hard. All those girls, that was me trying to prevent myself from acting on my feelings because of rule twelve. I knew that if anything ever did happen between us, and then for some reason we fell apart, it would be unbearable for both of us. What I’ve been feeling this past year reminds me of a song. I won’t sing it, I’ll just say the lines. I want to love you but I better not touch. I want to hold you but my senses tell me to stop. I want to kiss you but I want to too much. I want to taste you but your lips are venomous poison.”
“Alice Cooper.”
“Yeah. When I say you’re like poison, I mean it in the best possible context. For a year, and I will quote more of the song, you’ve been under my skin. I’ve tried my hardest not to think of us together, especially on undercover ops, or protection detail. Tried hard not to find you so overwhelmingly gorgeous. I don’t want to ruin what we have already, because if I did, I know it would break both our hearts. But I love you.”
He lifted her from the sofa as she looked at him in shock. He gently placed his lips to hers and for a slight second, she hesitated. But the moment was soon over and she responded. Almost too late, she pulled back and looked at the ground, which had become strangely fascinating.
“You taste like strawberries. Hmm…strawberry kisses.”
She never spoke, never smiled. Never looked at him. Instead, she kept her eyes firmly fixed to the floor.
“Katie?”
“I’m sorry.”
He could barely hear her. He was sure she’d just said that she was sorry, but what had she got to be sorry for. He looked her over and noticed a shining tear rolling down her cheek.
“Katie, why are you sorry?”
“I’m sorry, because I don’t love you. I never have. At thought at one point maybe I did. But I don’t. I’m sorry.”
“Kate?”
“Tony, I think you better leave.”
Tony stood back from the woman he adored. Had he heard her correctly? She didn’t love him? A slight blush crept over his face as he grabbed his jacket from the bathroom. Without hesitation he ran out the door, leaving Kate watching his retreating form fade into the night.
She couldn’t think straight. That kiss had been so good. So soft and gentle, then she had to spoil everything by telling Tony that she never felt the way he did. What was work going to be like? Would they ever get past this? Only time would tell.
